Za Križen Procession — A Tradition Beyond Time
On the night of Maundy Thursday, six processions from the parishes of Jelsa, Pitve, Vrisnik, Svirče, Vrbanj, and Vrboska form an unbroken chain of prayer, devotion, and vows. This overnight pilgrimage lasts eight hours, passing through villages and churches, as the sound of the traditional hymn Gospin Plač fills the night air, creating an atmosphere of serene power and deep spirituality.
The Za Križen procession is not just a religious ceremony — it is a symbol of unity, perseverance, and commitment. Bearers of the cross, surrounded by their companions carrying torches and candles, silently convey the centuries-old story of faith and redemption.
